I have recently completed my doctorate in Engineering which explored future systems of measurement for hand hygiene. For this research I was based at the Institute of Digital Healthcare, WMG, University of Warwick, and worked closely with the Infection Prevention and Control Team at UHCW.
All my research highlights a need for the involvement of healthcare professionals in research, not only as participants, but as research instigators, designers and leaders. To further this goal I am now undertaking a permanent NHS role at UHCW as Infection Prevention and Control Research Practitioner, with the aim of widening engagement between healthcare professionals and active infection prevention research. This includes encouraging healthcare professionals to co-author peer reviewed conference and journal papers, to ensure new knowledge is disseminated.
In parallel I am continuing to build my academic research profile, exploring new technologies and behavioural aspects of infection prevention through a human factors and systems lens. I am a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick on the PHEE project within Experiential Engineering, and work closely with the Institute of Digital Healthcare. My dual role allows me to maintain an academic capacity whist ensuring my research has direct translational impact within our healthcare system.
I am also focused on widening participation in research through my role as Chair of Warwick Women In Science.
Prior to my doctorate I worked in manufacturing for six years, as a Project Analyst for a global laser company, and hold an MA in Organisation Studies from Warwick Business School and a BSc in Psychology from Warwick.
I welcome discussion on any aspect of research – please contact me via C.H.Dawson@warwick.ac.uk or via Twitter (@chd05).
